Vaillant & Worcester - the ones you've probably heard of, take the lions share of the market, holding 71% of all enquiries between them. Their exceptional reputations and long warranties have helped them retain their place above the chasers, for years. As far as boiler asthetics go, they tend to be pretty good looking too. That really takes some doing.
This isn't to say you should restrict yourself to the top two best sellers - modern combi boilers in general are getting more impressive by the year with several manufacturers happy to offer warranties upto and beyond the 10 year mark, you can definitely afford quality and peace of mind, on a budget.
The most popular boiler manufacturer from what Heatable would consider budget options, is Ideal, with an impressive 35% share from customer enquiries. Their growing popularity with installers has filtered down to consumers, particularly because of the great warranties the Ideal accredited installers can offer them.

If by chance, your choice has come down to a Zanussi or an Ideal, then don't spend too long agonising because many modern Zanussi boilers are actually Ideal boilers with Zanussi branding... The illusion of choice! In cases like this, or when you just aren't sure which boiler package to choose then always look to the warranty length and any extras that the installer may offer - particuarly if they will offer their own parts & labour warranty on top of the standard manufacturer cover. It's also worth a closer look at the power of the boiler and , see our short article on boiler Kilowatts to get clued up.
Chances are your boiler trivia is the weakest link in your general knowledge arsenal, but don't worry, it would be weird if it wasn't. There's no denying though, there's good reason behind the popularity of the top brands, their quality offers dependability - look out for the top installers who are accredited by the manufacturers themselves, they'll be able to offer extended warranties and the kind of mental dexterity you'd usually assosciate with fighter pilots.
Take the time to research. The boiler manufacturer might sound like an Italian sports car and have a great warranty but it's the manufacturer that honours the warranty in most cases. If they're producing poor boilers then don't expect their customer service to be any better.
Trust in your installer - Quality installers tend to only offer two or three manufacturers at most and a top installer wouldn't install any boiler that they wouldn't have in their own home. Searching Heatable using the form below is as good a place to start as any.
