A heat pump is a device that transfers heat from one place to another, typically used for heating and cooling buildings. It works by extracting heat from the air, ground, or water outside (even in cold weather) and moving it indoors to heat your home. In the summer, it can reverse the process, acting as an air conditioner by removing heat from inside and transferring it outside. Heat pumps are energy-efficient because they move heat rather than generating it, making them a greener alternative to traditional heating systems like gas boilers.
To claim the BUS grant, you’ll need to own your home, have an EPC from the last 10 years (don’t worry if you don’t have one, we can help), and if your home is under renovation, you’ll need to wait until it’s finished.
Heat pumps can start as low as £500 for a standard installation (including the £7,500 government grant). However, more complex installations may cost substantially more. The national average cost is around £5,000.
