As a result of recent cold weather, we're seeing large volumes of enquiries from customers who're experiencing problems with their boilers.
In most cases, the problems are being caused by frozen pipework.
This could be the boilers condense pipework which has frozen outside, or, even the water main outside of the property.
What issues are people having?
- No heating or hot water
- Error codes displaying on the boilers interface
As above, if this has happened over the past few days, it's more than likely due to extreme weather which the UK has, and currently is experiencing.
What can I do?
To get up and running, there are a few things to try, safely.
- Find your boilers condensate pipework
The condense pipework will exit your property towards the bottom of the boiler, and typically terminate in to a grid. It will be either black, or white plastic, and look something like the below: - Pour warm water on the condense pipework
This will thaw out the ice which is blocking the boiler from operating correctly. Once thawed, you should visibly see ice exit the pipework. Once the ice has cleared, you will need to reset the boiler. - The boiler should then fire up and become operational
The error codes should clear, and the boiler will function as normal.
What else can I do?
This weather is extreme, and unpredicatable.
If you do not wish to attempt to thaw out the pipework by yourself, you will need to arrange for an engineer to attend to resolve the issue. Or, alternatlvely, wait for the weather to warm up and the pipework will thaw by itself.
What can Heatable do, if you fitted my boiler?
Unfortunately, Heatable only has a network of installation engineers, we do not have repair engineers.
We would recommend attempting the process above first, or, contacting a local repair engineer who can help.
