Viessmann Vitodens 050-W Boiler Review: Price, Specs & Verdict

Viessmann Vitodens 050-W Boiler Review: Price, Specs & Verdict

The Viessmann Vitodens 050-W is one of those boilers that makes the whole idea of an “entry-level” model slightly misleading.

It sits towards the more affordable end of Viessmann’s range, but still gets a stainless steel heat exchanger, smart connectivity, compact dimensions and a 10-year warranty when installed through Heatable.

In other words, it’s cheap by Viessmann standards. Not cheap in the “made from hope and recycled yoghurt pots” sense.

So, is it actually any good?

Our verdict: The Vitodens 050-W is an excellent all-round combi boiler for smaller and medium-sized homes, particularly those with one bathroom. You get much of what makes Viessmann’s more expensive boilers attractive without paying for features you may never use.

Viessmann itself positions the 050-W primarily for smaller homes and flats, although the introduction of the 35kW model gives the range considerably more hot-water grunt than it had previously.

  • A-rated, 92% ErP seasonal efficiency

  • Compact 700mm × 400mm × 300mm dimensions

Viessmann 050-W reliability

Heatable rating: 5/5

One of the biggest reasons we like the 050-W is that Viessmann hasn’t stripped out the important bits to hit a lower price.

At the heart of the boiler is Viessmann’s Inox-Radial stainless steel heat exchanger. Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and is one of the areas where the 050-W feels more premium than its price might suggest. Viessmann uses the same basic material philosophy throughout much of its Vitodens range.

The boiler also uses Viessmann’s MatriX-Plus burner and Lambda Pro combustion control, which automatically adjusts combustion to help keep operation efficient and emissions low.

That doesn’t mean a Viessmann will never break down. No boiler gets that privilege. But the actual hardware here is reassuringly good for a boiler at this end of the range.

What do Viessmann customers think?

Viessmann’s wider reputation is strong too.

As of October 2026, Viessmann Climate Solutions UK has a Trustpilot score of 4.6 out of 5 from more than 5,700 reviews.

Recent reviews frequently mention quiet operation, compact design and positive experiences with installers and engineers, although there are naturally also complaints around individual faults and aftercare.

That’s a much healthier data point than simply declaring something “reliable” because the brochure says so.

Viessmann Vitodens 050-W performance

Heatable rating: 4/5

The 050-W comes in three combi outputs:

Model

DHW output

Hot-water flow rate

Vitodens 050-W 25kW

25.4kW

10.2 L/min

Vitodens 050-W 30kW

29.6kW

12.2 L/min

Vitodens 050-W 35kW

35kW

14.3 L/min

For most homes, the 30kW is the sweet spot. Its 12.2 L/min flow rate gives it noticeably more hot-water capacity than the 25kW without automatically jumping to the biggest boiler available.

The 35kW pushes that to 14.3 L/min and makes more sense if you have higher hot-water demand.

One important caveat: this is still a combi boiler. Even the 35kW model isn’t a magic box capable of supplying endless hot water to several bathrooms simultaneously.

Viessmann describes the 35kW version as particularly suitable for improving hot-water comfort in one-bathroom properties.

If you have multiple bathrooms being used at the same time, a system boiler and hot-water cylinder may be the better setup.

How efficient is the Viessmann 050-W?

The current Vitodens 050-W is A-rated with 92% ErP seasonal space-heating efficiency.

That figure needs a little clarification because you may see older Viessmann literature and boiler websites quoting figures of 97% or even 98%.

Those figures use different efficiency measurements and shouldn’t be presented as though they are the current ErP seasonal-efficiency rating.

For an apples-to-apples comparison with modern UK boilers, 92% ErP efficiency is the useful number.

The boiler can also work with Viessmann’s smart controls and ViCare app, allowing you to manage heating schedules and temperatures remotely. Compatible versions include Wi-Fi connectivity inside the boiler itself.

Viessmann Vitodens 050-W dimensions

Small boiler. Quite a lot going on inside it.

The 050-W measures:

Dimension

Size

Height

700mm

Width

400mm

Depth

300mm

That makes it particularly useful when replacing an older boiler where space is limited.

Viessmann has also designed the boiler so that its main connections and serviceable components can be accessed from the front, meaning it doesn’t require large service clearances at either side.

Basically, it behaves itself in a cupboard.

Controls and smart features

The Vitodens 050-W uses a digital display with touch controls for adjusting heating and hot-water temperatures.

Depending on the version, you can also connect it to the internet and control your heating through the ViCare app.

From your phone, you can check the system status, adjust temperatures and set heating and hot-water schedules.

Viessmann also offers its own ViCare thermostat for more integrated control.

It’s not the huge colour touchscreen you’ll find further up the Vitodens range, but that’s arguably a positive.

It’s a boiler. You shouldn’t need an Apple Genius appointment to turn the heating up.

Viessmann Vitodens 050-W warranty

Heatable rating: 5/5

Buy the Vitodens 050-W through Heatable and it currently comes with a 10-year parts and labour warranty.

That’s particularly impressive for a boiler positioned below the more premium Vitodens 100-W.

As with any boiler warranty, it’s important to follow the servicing and registration requirements.

A ten-year warranty isn’t much use if you accidentally invalidate it in year three because the annual service disappeared into the same black hole as your dentist appointment.

How much does the Viessmann Vitodens 050-W cost?

Heatable rating: 4/5

Boiler prices are slightly annoying because the boiler itself is only one part of what you’re paying for.

Installation complexity, flue position, pipework, controls and whether you’re replacing like-for-like or converting your heating system can all change the final price.

At the time of writing, Heatable lists the Vitodens 050-W 25kW from £2,625 fully installed, including a 10-year warranty.

Rather than relying too heavily on a price table that will inevitably be wrong six months from now, the sensible option is to run your property through our online quote tool.

It takes around a minute and gives you the current installed price for your home.

Viessmann 050-W vs Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000

The obvious rival to the 050-W is the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000.

Both are excellent mainstream boilers aimed broadly at smaller and medium-sized homes, but they take slightly different approaches.

The 4000 is a very good boiler and Worcester Bosch has an enormous installer and support footprint in Britain.

But purely on hardware, the 050-W is extremely difficult to argue against. It’s smaller, offers a 35kW option and comes with Viessmann’s stainless steel heat exchanger.

Worcester’s current Greenstar 4000 is 724 × 400 × 310mm, reaches 12.3 L/min on the 30kW model at a 35°C temperature rise and uses a 94% ErP space-heating efficiency figure.

If familiarity and Worcester Bosch’s UK presence matter most to you, the 4000 remains a strong choice.

If the specification sheet gets the deciding vote, we’d take the Viessmann.

Is the Viessmann Vitodens 050-W worth buying?

Yes.

The 050-W hits a particularly good point in Viessmann’s range because you’re getting the things that actually matter: good internal components, strong hot-water performance, compact dimensions, smart controls and a long warranty.

You aren’t paying extra for a giant display or features that spend the next decade untouched inside your kitchen cupboard.

Buy the Vitodens 050-W if:

  • You have a small or medium-sized home

  • You have one main bathroom

  • You want a compact combi boiler

  • You value a stainless steel heat exchanger

  • You want smart controls without buying Viessmann’s most expensive model

  • You want a 10-year warranty through Heatable

Consider something else if:

  • You have several bathrooms with simultaneous hot-water demand

  • You need a system rather than a combi setup

  • You want Viessmann’s more advanced controls and premium specification

  • Your priority is simply buying the cheapest possible boiler

For many typical UK homes, though, the 050-W is arguably the sweet spot of the Viessmann range.
