Resetting a Worcester Boiler: Press and hold the reset button on the front control panel for 3-5 seconds until the boiler restarts.

Error Codes: If the boiler doesn’t reset or an error code remains, consult the manual or a professional.
Safety Note: Frequent resets indicate a deeper issue needing professional attention.
When Is It Okay to Reset My Worcester Boiler?
Important Note: If you smell gas or are otherwise concerned for your safety/well-being due to an issue with your boiler, immediately evacuate your property and then call 0800 111 999 for the emergency gas service. Gas leaks can be very dangerous and can result in explosions.
Firstly, you should be aware that if there is an underlying reason why your boiler needs to be reset, resetting it won’t fix this problem.
You may or may not be able to fix the underlying issue DIY (more on this below).
Resetting a Worcester boiler is not always appropriate. However, if your boiler has a blue flashing light (and nothing else is awry), you could give this a try.
Also, if your boiler is experiencing a lockout, a reset may suffice.
With all that said, if you see an error code (a.k.a., a fault code) you’ll need to check your boiler’s manual and see what it suggests, or you can check our comprehensive error code guide here.
In most cases, error codes need fixing by a qualified heating engineer.
What’s more, unless you are absolutely sure of the fix required for a given error code (and assuming it is one that’s DIY-friendly), you must hire a Gas Safe Register engineer. The same, of course, applies to any work that is not DIY-friendly.
PS Typically a Worcester Bosch error code is accompanied by a blue flashing light.
How to Reset Your Boiler Worcester Boiler
Resetting a boiler is one of the few boiler tasks that is DIY friendly.
So, knowing how to reset your boiler could be crucial if your boiler runs into minor issues, particularly during the winter time.
After all, if your boiler turns off and it simply requires a reset, knowing how to do this could prevent you from being left in the cold and without access to hot water.
Of course, knowing when a boiler reset is needed is also important as for some problems, a reset will be insufficient or potentially even a safety hazard (e.g. when your boiler has an issue that means it should be kept turned off until a qualified heating engineer can fix it).
Here’s How You Reset a Worcester Boiler
To reset your Worcester Bosch, all you need to do is press and hold the reset button which is situated at the front of your boiler’s control panel.

You must hold the reset button down for between 3 and 5 seconds. This is needed to make certain that the boiler correctly resets before you can check the system again and see that it’s working as it should be.
If your boiler lacks a reset button, it may instead feature a light that you can use to reset your boiler.
You’ll find this light on the thermostat dial, assuming that your boiler comes with this type of light. If in doubt, check the manual to see if your boiler has a reset light.
If it does, and you’ve found it on the thermostat dial (a.k.a. temperature dial), turn it all the way down until you reach the reset light.
As soon as you’ve done this, hold it there for about 3 to 5 seconds until it returns to its initial position. Next, check that your boiler is working exactly as it should be.

Maintaining Your Worcester Boiler and Preventing Issues
To avoid problems arising in the first place, it’s important that your boiler is properly maintained.
For one, you should have your Worcester Bosch boiler serviced annually so that, among other things, your boiler can be inspected, and any issues caught or/and fixed before they worsen over time.
Aside from being a great safety measure, it could potentially save you a lot of money.
Furthermore, having a Worcester boiler serviced annually is necessary to keep your Worcester Bosch guarantee active.
Per the brand’s guarantee terms and conditions, your boiler needs to be serviced annually by a competent and officially certified heating engineer.
The service details must also be recorded in the service record and be available for inspection upon request to keep your guarantee eligible.
Aside from annual maintenance, it’s important to have issues addressed as soon as possible whenever they arise.
Not only would this be critical from a safety point of view, but it could save you money in the long run as it would help you prevent problems from worsening over time.
Other steps that should be taken include:
Job Description | How Often Should This Be Done? | DIY-friendly? * |
Bleeding Radiators | Every Year | Yes |
Power Flushing Central Heating | Every 5-6 Years | Yes |
*Please note that for DIY-friendly tasks, you should only undertake this work if you have the right skills and knowledge, and you are fully aware of all safety precautions. If in doubt, consult a professional.
Aside from the maintenance steps mentioned above, you might consider adding a magnetic filter to your central heating.
This would capture magnetic debris over time and thus prevent the accumulation of sludge in your system, which in turn would either prevent the need for a power flush or prolong the time before it would be required.

Common Worcester Boiler Error Codes
As mentioned earlier, your Worcester Bosch boiler may show an error/fault code when it’s locked out/needing a reset.
While Worcester boilers are known for being durable and long-lasting, they aren’t totally infallible, and issues can arise.
Here are the most common error codes that can appear on Worcester boilers:
Error Code | What Does It Mean? |
EA | Your boiler has failed to ignite. |
D1 | Your boiler is either overheating or suffering from a damaged sensor. If this code appears, you’ll need to hire a heating engineer right away. |
E9 | There could be damage to your boiler’s main heat exchanger. Again, in this case, hire a heating engineer ASAP. |
C1 | Your boiler’s fan is damaged. Again, you’d need to hire a heating engineer ASAP. |
A1 | No water in the boiler system. If this occurs, check the pressure gauge to verify that your water pressure is low. If it is and you know what to do, you can top up your system’s water to re-pressurise the system assuming that it’s cold. If this doesn’t work, hire a heating engineer. |
