Considering an ATAG boiler, but wondering how they compare to the more renowned boiler brands? Let's find out...
Producing and designing boilers for nearly seven decades, ATAG now operates in various nations around the world.
Their high-efficiency boilers have certainly made their mark, but how do they compare to rivals?
ATAG prides itself on having the most efficient boilers in Europe. Their award-winning appliances feature a ten-year warranty as standard and there are optional warranties going up to fourteen years.
As mentioned, ATAG operates in many countries, with strict engineering standards applied in each case.
Notably, the ATAG boilers i range are described by the brand as being built to last thanks to the use of components made of brass and stainless steel.
These boilers also feature exceptionally low levels of nitrogen oxide emissions, making them a more eco-friendly option.
Each ATAG boiler comes with the brand’s iCon heat exchanger providing high levels of efficiency and performance.
ATAG produces a decent range of combi, regular, and system boilers with some of their best-selling options being their IC27+ Economiser Plus 27 kW boiler and IC39+ Economiser Plus 39 kW boiler, both of which are combi boiler units with efficiency levels of 94%.

ATAG Boiler Review
History of ATAG Gas Boilers
ATAG Heating was founded in the Netherlands in 1948. It’s only been in recent times that they’ve expanded their reach to the wider international market, which included an entry into the UK market.
Their UK wing is known as ATAG Heating Technology UK Limited. ATAG Heating was acquired by the Ariston Group (a.k.a. Ariston Holding NV or Ariston Thermo) in November 2014.
Ariston Thermo is an Italian corporation that was founded in 1930 and has about 7,000 employees and a revenue of around £1.3 billion, as of 2017. Other Ariston brands include Elco Heating Solutions, Chaffoteaux and Thermowatt.
ATAG Heating’s current registered UK address is in West Malling, Kent whereas they have a British operating address in South Castle Drive, Dunfermline.
ATAG Combi Boilers
There are currently seven ATAG combi boilers available which are part of two unique selections, namely the iC Economiser combi boilers and iC Economiser Plus combi boilers.
The latter is the best-selling combi boiler range from the brand and among the most popular models offered by ATAG in general.
What is a Combi Boiler?
A combi boiler (a.k.a. combination boiler) is the most common type of boiler used in the UK with as many as seven out of ten UK homes featuring a combi boiler.
This type of boiler comes in the form of a single compact unit that is able to provide homes with both heating and hot water.
Combi boilers may provide hot water directly to your taps and radiators without the need for a separate storage tank.
Since modern A-rated combi boilers can offer efficiency levels greater than 90% and they are extremely space-saving, it’s no real surprise that they have become the number 1 type of domestic boiler in the UK.
ATAG Combi Boilers: Price Range
While the total installed cost of fitting an ATAG combi boiler includes that of labour, the filter and flue, and other expenses, many consumers are interested in knowing the supply cost/standalone cost of particular boilers.
The supply price of ATAG combi boilers stands between £1,300 and £2,150, depending on the model in question.
Of course, prices can vary further based on the supplier and thus you may find ATAG combi boilers on sale that fall outside the price range given above.
Of the following two selections offered, the iC Economiser Plus selection is the most expensive with a price tag of approximately £600 to £700 more than the regular iC Economiser models.
Bear in mind that the cost of a complete ATAG boiler installs could be more than a thousand pounds dearer than buying one standalone.
Therefore, any offers to install an ATAG boiler (with all costs included) should not be below £1,000. If it is, you’ve probably been given an offer that isn't completely transparent.

ATAG Regular Boilers
ATAG Heating has one selection of regular boilers consisting of five models.
What is a Regular Boiler?
Regular boilers are also referred to as traditional, conventional or heat-only boilers. Regular boilers should only be installed for a like-for-like replacement since these boilers require specific pipework.
Regular boilers can produce heated water for central heating; however, they can’t be used for baths, taps, showers, or otherwise domestically.
More on the functioning of these boilers, cold water is sent from a tank (in the loft) to heat-only boilers. A hot water storage cylinder is also required to ensure that water is provided daily.

ATAG System Boilers
Looking at the brand’s system boilers, there is, as is the case with the brand’s regular boilers, one selection offered which also comprises five separate models.
What is a System Boiler?
Should you have a larger property with a substantial demand for hot water and heating, then a system boiler may be necessary.
System boilers come with a separate water storage tank, meaning that they can provide hot water to outputs simultaneously without any decline in performance.
ATAG System Boiler: Price Range
As for the system boilers offered by ATAG, the price ranges from about £1,250 to £1,500.
The i15S system boiler is the least expensive of the brand’s system boiler models and the i40S is the highest priced.

ATAG Boilers Verdict
But how do ATAG boilers compare with the competition?
In terms of quality, service and customer satisfaction, clearly, ATAG is at the top of the game and would compete well with brands like Viessmann and Worcester-Bosch on many fronts.
One undeniable downside to ATAG boilers, though, is their cost.
From the 17 boilers currently offered by ATAG, we found that the average standalone cost of such appliances is about £1,470 with the average fitting cost (all expenses included) being around £2,520.
These prices would put ATAG boilers within the upper limits of the price range of similar high-quality brands.
With that being said, their Trustpilot rating beats most of the competition, with ATAG only behind Ideal Heating in the list of the most highly rated boiler manufacturers on Trustpilot.
On the other hand, Worcester Bosch and Alpha get a rating of 4.6 each with Viessmann securing 4.4 stars out of five.
Baxi, a boiler brand known for affordability, comes in fifth just behind Alpha with a rating of 4.5. So, does the rating and quality of ATAG boilers make the extra cost worth it?
Well, it’s difficult to say with certainty but there’s a strong case to be made that ATAG boilers are among the very best boilers on the market.
Indeed, perhaps only Alpha boilers are a definitively better option in terms of value for money, considering that Alpha boilers are quite a bit cheaper than ATAG’s.
That said, you should make sure you choose one of the best Alpha boilers if you go with them (so long as it fits your needs) to know that you’re probably getting something better than the best of what ATAG has to offer.
